The New Norton(Continued)

Image
Well, I as as usual doin my stuff, listening to AI lectures that I downloaded from the internet when suddenly, this popped up : This is as it says a monthly report of “what Norton has been doing” over the last 1 month and I see it had blocked, cleaned, a lot of stuff, etc. Well, thanks to this I realized that its been a month since I installed it ;) I really don’t get it. Why does Norton have to show that? Maybe yet another desperate effort to show the users that they have improved over what we are familiar with :) That aside, considering the whole month, I don’t see any problems other than the ones I mentioned earlier and my computer doesn’t exhibit any kind of problems in terms of performance or any other which we would suspect as a malicious or a virus caused activity. I can now recommend Norton to new users. I’m gonna use this license for the year and probably end up buying it later on. Lets see.

Library Management System (Industry Style)

Image
Well, its been almost two years since I have been working for Accenture and its clients. Today, I just had a thought about the kind of projects the Computer Science students of my college used to do. The common types include all these “Management Systems” like Inventory, Hospital and so on. During the college days how people do or rather get forced to do is to just make a gimmick out of them with basic C/C++ on a command-line interface and making a what they call “Menu driven program”. Now that I have been in the industry for some time and have learned and developed or been part of the development of solutions to a number of clients, I thought how about resurrecting an old school program that I made using what I have seen/learned over the years. Lets be honest here. I was gettin bored having nothing to do and this came out as a result of 5mins of scribbling on a paper. Heres AK’s Library Solution. At this point I’m not sure which library can afford such a solution. Maybe the Librar...

The new Norton (SEP - Extras)

Image
I believe you all have seen my previous post about Norton 360 where I was very unhappy with the beta. In addition to testing the beta, the reason why I never included the release versions so far is because I have seen that it doesn’t make a difference between what I’ve seen with the beta. My office desktop has the Norton in it and it always gets in the way of my work. I mean all the time, whenever I need to get something done urgently, the first thing to do is to disable Norton and then get it done. Now, why I felt like including this 2010 version of Norton Internet Security is still a mystery to me. Now let me tell you what I do on my non-working hours. I have accounts in a few social networking websites, including Facebook and Linkedin and I do occasionally enter the “technical” forums and discuss with people over there on the latest technology trends and lots of high tech stuff. Now, couple of weeks ago I ran into this guy Steve, who works in Symantec. It was a security experts fo...

Microsoft Security Essentials

Image
I never expected this. Microsoft is famous for its greed for money and go about overcharging everything and expecting money wherever ethically should be free. I mean seriously, if a dad buys a product, he has to buy a separate license, if he has to share it with his son. Legally seems right, but ethically NOT. Now who would expect somebody like that to give away stuff for free, right?? That's exactly what Microsoft did. They made a security suite and its FREE for anybody with a genuine windows. The installer is just under 5MB(for my Windows 7 x64) and the installation happens in warp speed. The time takes when you do your very first update. You see, Microsoft made the installer in such a way that it does not contain any virus definitions at all. So, this is definitely not to be installed on a PC tats already infected. The settings are all great and easy to understand. So, it scores a lot for user-friendliness. However, I do miss the option of customizations which howeve...

ZoneAlarm Acquired by Norton???

Image
Did Norton acquire ZoneAlarm(Checkpoint)?? The above screen pretty much reminds me too much about Norton 360(refer my post about it to know why). I thought of waiting for a day. But I just can't. This thing is making it impossible for me to use my computer by slowing things down. I am beginning to think that Nortons a lot better at this. I am going back to my bitdefender total security(so far the best I've seen).

ZoneAlarm Extreme Security

Image
This is what I have been seeing ever since I installed ZoneAlarm Extreme Security on my HP G60. I remember the days I used to love the ZoneAlarm products. This ones clearly a disspointment. I had to shut it down to access my blog to post this. I am really tempted to uninstall and go back to bitdefender. However lets wait for one more day(lets not be too hasty :) )...

Billing and CRM Systems

Image
I have been always thinking that a Billing system and a CRM system are a piece of cake. You know, the things you teach programming with in schools, the database linked applications like the Super Market thing, Inventory and then the hospital management programs which your teacher asks you to "memorise" for the exams ;) So, when I heard Billing and CRM System when I first walked into Telstra in Accenture, the above was pretty much what I had been expecting. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into ;) It was like accidently running into the beast. Comverse and Oracle are the makers of the wonderful products called Kenan Arbor and Siebel CRM . Kenan is coming from comverse and Siebel is coming from Oracle. I just learned that Comverse has now made a new product called the Comverse One which includes both Billing and CRM systems together as a package.  Now I guess its pretty obvious that any company who needs a billing system would also need a crm system. Why? Well, Duh,,,...
